| More good news for the Preble Amateur Radio area and surrounding counties. We have just installed a new packet TNC and have it up and running. It's putting out about 10 watts on a 200 foot antennae and it will be on 24 hours, 7 days a week. We're hoping to get more Hams back to using this mode and others( ie. Pactor, psk31, RTTY, etc.)We will eventually get the DSP unit wired to a HF rig for additional modes and frequencies. Other states in the USA have some form of Packet up and running, and are using it for E-COM use.
The TNC is a Timewave PSK 232+ and is wired to a Kenwood TM 241a, and it is on 145.070 Mz. Our call is K8YR and the mail box is K8YR-10. As we learn more of the system's uses and modes, It'll be posted on this site. |

| PARA is involved with the state wide Flu Pandemic exercise as ARES. The dates are 2-5-08, 2-12-08 and 2-19-08 from 0745 to about noon on exercise days. We are to man the club station as well as the MARCS and public band radios. We expect to receive and send exercise traffic on all available radio networks.
Todays exercise was maned by Gary, NJ8BB. Todays radio operations was focused with radio checks locally and checking in with net control for the exercise in Dayton on vhf/uhf freqs. A few problems became evident in todays trial run. They are as follows:
1. Manuals: The radio manuals for the station was not easily found. They need to be located in one spot. Also the operator was not as familiar with the FT8800 as he should of been. A quick cheat sheet needs to be made for the radios.
2. Mo' antennas. The station needs another vhf antenna. The station has two antennas for two stations. But a third one is needed for vhf packet. I had to steal the packet antenna to operate the local repeater. Also, a antenna patch panel is very much needed for the station. We should make this a priority with all the other priority projects.
3. Admin: The station needs a stapler and hole punch of its own. I couldn't steal Charlies because everybody else was using his. ISC 213 general message form was not immeditally available. The form is downloaded to the station computer on the desktop as a word document now. We have a good supply of ARRL message forms.
Also repeater codes need to be located at the station also.

| The K8YR Packet is back on-line. We had to use its' antenna for the FT 2500m radio for the 145.47 repeater. The 8800 was used to contact the regional net control for the District 3 Pandemic Exorcise.Hopefully we will get another antenna up soon so all of the radios will be operational. Again, to log on to our packet station's BBS, It is on 145.070 and the call is K8YR-10.
